Who We Are

We are a Colombian company, part of the Carvajal SA Organization, specialized in the production of pulp and paper. With more than 60 years of experience, we have built a broad portfolio of high-quality products for printing, writing and packaging. We operate two production plants in Yumbo, Valle del Cauca, and in Guachené, Cauca, sugar regions par excellence. We employ more than 1,200 collaborators, generating consolidated revenues of $1,163 billion pesos per year (base year 2023).

Our distinctive approach focuses on leveraging alternative fibres, such as sugarcane bagasse and rice straw, which enables us to manufacture optimal papers and boards from organic waste from other industries. More than 80% of the fibre used in the manufacture of our paper comes from alternative sources such as sugarcane bagasse. This percentage may fluctuate due to exceptional operating conditions, with records of between 98% and 86% during the period 2023-2024.

We are committed to innovation, efficiency and the development of products that add value to our customers. A clear example of this is our Earth Pact line of papers and cardboards, recognized for their distinctive natural tone and available in various gauges.

In the Earth Pact manufacturing process, we eliminate pulp bleaching, allowing us to save approximately 30% water, 70% steam, and 11% energy compared to our traditional white papers, as measured in 2023. In addition, we do not add additional bleaching chemicals, beyond those present in the post-industrial waste of white papers that we reuse, which preserves the natural hue of sugarcane bagasse.

EARTH PACT is the ideal choice for those clients who are looking for a distinctive solution and who wish to join our commitment to fulfill our pact with the planet.

At Propal, we are guided by the purpose of “Promoting economic and social development by doing things right” and we act with integrity and respect, adapting to market changes and responding to the expectations of our stakeholders.

Higher Purpose

The history of the Carvajal organization began more than a century ago, on October 29, 1904, when three visionary leaders brought a printing press to Cali to develop their dreams. Since then, and over time, that dream has evolved, permeating thousands of people around the continent, conquering different markets and sowing the conviction that it is possible to promote the development of your environment, your country and even the world if you do things right.

All this is the result of a collective conviction that today becomes our higher purpose, which is:

We promote economic and social development
DOING THINGS RIGHT.

Our History

The North American company WR Grace and Co founded Pulpaco (Colombian Pulp and Papers), a company in charge of using the sugar cane bagasse left by sugar mills to produce fine papers for printing and writing. To do this, it built its plant in Yumbo – Valle del Cauca, taking advantage of the plain or valley of the Cauca River and the constant production of sugar cane. It would later be called Pagraco (Colombian Grace Pulp and Papers).

Nuestra Historia

Luego pasaría a llamarse Pagraco (Pulpa y Papeles Grace Colombianos)
